A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Jay Rizzetto began his music career at a young age. Continuing his career and education in the New York and Boston area he attended the New England Conservatory of Music where he received  a Master of Music degree and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Massachusetts. As a postgraduate, he was a fellow at the Institute de Hautes etudes Musicales in Montreux Switzerland and in addition he did post graduate studies in conducting at the Eastman School of Music.  His trumpet teachers have been,  Roger VoisinArmando Ghitalla. Melvin Brolies, Natalo Paella and Joe Alessi.

Jay has had a very busy career performing with many organizations including the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra where he recently received an award of appreciation for twenty-five years of service with that orchestra, The San Francisco Opera, The Opera Company of BostonSan Francisco Contemporary Chamber Music Players, and the California Brass Quintet to name but a few. The San Francisco Chronicle praised Mr. Rizzetto as “an impressive soloist of considerable merit” and other press praise has called him " a musician of the first rank" and "a trumpeter with a beautiful soaring tone".

Mr. Rizzetto has premiered numerous compositions for trumpet including those by Pulitzer Prize winning composers Norman Dello Joio and Henry Brant. Also included in his many first performances are King Lear Sonata for Trumpet and Organ by the award winning composer Larry Delinger and with Pauline Oliveros, he performed Calpurnia's Dream Obscured, pioneering one of the first live Internet performances.  He has performed with many of the world’s musical icons including Aaron CoplandFrank SinatraLuciano Pavarotti, Krysztof Penderecki,  and Arturo Sandoval to name but a few.

Mr. Rizzetto is a dedicated trumpet teacher and music educator. Many of his students can be found in major American orchestras as well as in the jazz and recording worlds. He also has many students who have gone on to successful careers as music educators. In addition Mr. Rizzetto has contributed to trumpet pedagogy with various trumpet books, which have received positive reviews through peer journals.

In 2003 Mr. Rizzetto was a visiting professor at Xinjiang Arts University in Urumqi, China, where he held master classes and performed as a soloist. He has also been a guest speaker at various schools and colleges including Stanford University and University of California at Berkeley. He has served on the faculties of California State University East Bay/ Hayward, where he was a faculty member for eighteen years, The University of Massachusetts and Mills College in Oakland, California.
